
Sheki Youth Information Center is based in Sheki, Azerbaijan, funded by National Endowment for Democracy. The mission of Sheki Youth Information Center is to build confidence in the democratic process among youth, support to promote youth involvement and interest in journalism, human rights, and NGOs through its resource center for the youth and through fun-educational activities. SYIC encourages young people in north-west region of Azerbaijan to become involved in their community and engage in the democratic process. By fostering youth participation in NGO activity, SYIC strives to educate Azerbaijan’s youth and impart the values of self-reliance, activism, teamwork, and civic responsibility.

Goals
The focus of the Sheki Youth Information Center is to raise civic awareness and political consciousness among the youth, improve life skills, and give an opportunity for youth to creatively express themselves through arts, help them to share their thoughts and ideas in their communities and engage in the democratic process.Program Activities
The center provides different activities each week in order to build individual confidence and promote youth involvement and interest in the democratic process. Activities include trainings, documentary movie days with follow-up discussions, guest speaker sessions, and every day meetings with students in order to develop their personal goals, receive free legal aid, and provide access to library and recourse center services.
Training sessions are provided on particular themes such as: leadership, gender equality, community service, rights and responsibilities of citizens, human rights, history of democratic movements, arts, and culture.Documentary movie days give an opportunity for youth to learn visually and better understand different topics discussed within the program and allow free discussions and opinion exchange among youth. The guest speaker session is a unique opportunity for professors, human rights activists, artist, and various fascinating personalities with different backgrounds and specialties to meet in one auditorium together with youth and share their thoughts, ideas and experiences with youth.
Who Can Apply & How To Apply?
Students from Sheki, Gakh and Zagatala, aged 16 to 22 are eligible to apply. Application forms can be downloaded from here (syic_app.doc) and also available at the center’s front desk.
Note: Documentary movie days and guest speaker sessions are free to public and do not require registration.
