Five new communities established in Sheki region
Through the U.S. Embassy-supported “Responsible communities – democratic society” project, “Uluchay” Social-Economic Innovation Center started establishment of communities in five selected villages of Sheki region. Representatives of different target groups, including women, youth, elder people, government and private sector were involved to the community boards. Totally ten people (two from each target group) were selected to the community boards. Most of established communities are leading by women and young people.
The goal of establishment of community system in each selected villages, which are Kish, Oryet, Verezet, Baltali and Oxud, is to solve local social and economic problems through empowerment of civic participation and community responsibility.
Next step of the project includes institutional development of established communities, capacity building of community board members to increase their influence among citizens, supporting responsibility weeks and advocacy campaigns of communities and youth groups.
The project goal is to build civic responsibility and democratic values in five villages of Sheki region. Project is funded by the Democracy Commission Small Grants Program of U.S. Embassy in Azerbaijan.
